MIDPRICE MADNESS PLAYER 5- JAMES WORPEL (395,700) MID/FWD

The season ending injury to Tom Mitchell has left a gaping hole in the hawks midfield and will present opportunities to young midfielders such as Worpel in the 2019 season. Worpel showed explosive signs in 2018 with efforts beating the likes of Joel Selwood in a one-on-one contest. However, this will only be The Worps second season so it is a huge gamble to take on in the forward line this year.

PROS:

  • Average of 87 in his last 6 games last year

  • More midfield time up for the taking at the hawks

  • Not many notable midfielders at the hawks, could see a lot of the ball.

  • Young, second year player, hard to see him getting worse.

  • Has a cool last name.

  • Will be a massive differential pick

CONS:

  • Relatively unknown, has only played 9 games.

  • Big stature could mean he is used as a forward/mid.

  • 395k seems overpriced for me, considering he has only played 9 games.

  • Chad Wingard looks more likely to take the bulk midfield minutes left by Titch.

VERDICT:

I don’t mind Worpel as a pick this year, however it is a punt too far for me at almost 400k. I think his ceiling really isn’t higher than 95 max which doesn’t justify a selection for my mind. However, if he tears up in the JLT matches he will be firmly on my watchlist.

MIDPRICE RATING: 4/10
