Let’s not kid ourselves here, he was only on the most speculative of radars before the preseason games kicked off, with Sheed delivering a 144 against Geelong in JLT1 then backing it up with a 134 against Freo this week as well. It seems in the midfield there are so many decent options at that 300-450k mark, and Sheed is well and truly a option for that place in our sides. However, this is only preseason, and his real value can be recognised in a Pros vs Cons analysis.

  • As mentioned, a massive JLT series. Played pure midfield and had 40 touches in both games. Also, the Eagles were playing what was pretty much there best 22, so it is hard to see a drop off in his role as there shouldn’t be anyone returning to the side in round 1 who could affect Sheeds output.

  • Averaged 117 SuperCoach points and 1.73 PPM in last year’s finals series, and against Geelong and Freo going at a ridiculous 2.21 points per minute in the JLT.

  • A big factor for me is he is priced sub 400k not due to a season ending injury, in fact, he only missed the two games since 2017 with a foot injury.

  • One would think reaching 24 this year would mean it is the ideal time for him to hit his prime, as forecasted in his preseason so far this year.

  • Can kick one from a tight angle, in a pressure situation. Soz Collingwood fans

  • His stats from the last two years hardly scream pick me, averages 84 in 2017, then back down to just 73 last year

  • With Gaff returning in round 2, it is a stacked Eagles midfield, will there be enough disposals to go around for Sheed?

  • Plenty of ‘promising’ rookies in the midfield, potential to use the money saved on a rookie instead of Sheed in perhaps another line with less promising rookies. (FORWARDS)

  • Is less injury prone than Libba and Brad Crouch, but does he have the ceiling??

  • A lot to like about Sheed this year for me, he should only be playing through the middle, has shown he can hit high scores in the preseason and is relatively injury free. At this stage he currently just misses out in my team, as I think Brad Crouch could be the better pick around that price just based off average.

Thats a wrap for the midprice madness this pre season, stay tuned for the potential return of Harrys Studs and Duds this year.

Also, if you want to take me on in supercoach this season, 678186 is the league code ;)
